Your oil painting will be painted by hand with no digital, photographic or mechanical devices employed. Traditional methods still remain the only way
to create the timeless beauty of a professionally painted portrait. I use the “Old Masters’ Technique”, a 500 year old process, which achieves striking realism by applying numerous, smooth, thin layers of artists’ oil color. These fade resistant, multiple coatings produce richness of color and lifelike depth, while maintaining a soft-edged elegance. With the above methods and my use of high quality materials, your oil painting, with periodic maintenance, will last centuries.
Pricing is determined primarily on the amount of pictorial detail and secondarily on the size of the painting. A professional portrait is painted 3/4 to life size. For an adult portrait (head, shoulders and upper torso) this would equate to a painting approximately 28” wide by 36” high. The price for an oil painting of that description, with average background detail, is $2,600. Additional subjects in the same painting are 50% more. Portraits of children (under 12) start at $1,800. Animal portraits start at $900.
As I work almost exclusively from photographs, my prices include a photo shoot and subsequent evaluation. Typically I spend 8 to 12 weeks on a painting. To assure your complete satisfaction, ( before the final varnish is applied ) the painting will be brought to you for your inspection, at which time you may approve it or make changes. A deposit is required when the commission is agreed upon and the balance is due upon delivery.
